Gemma Collins announced as the new ‘Chicago’ star

Gemma Collins has been announced as the newest member of the cast Chicago as it continues its UK tour.

The only way is via Essex Star will play prison matron Mama Morton in the acclaimed musical and joins the tour at the Sunderland Empire from Tuesday 31 May 2022.

“The one and only @missgemcollins is about to shine the spotlight on the #ChicagoUKTour as she joins our company as ‘Mama’ Morton,” the official said Chicago Twitter account announced on Tuesday (March 29).

The cast also includes Faye Brookes, Djalenga Scott, Jamie Baughan and BE Wong. Producer David Ian said in a statement sent to The Independent: “We were absolutely blown away by Gemma’s audition for the role. She’s an undeniable force, both on and offstage, and we can’t wait to see her portrayal of Mama Morton on tour. Audiences across the country will rejoice.”

Collins previously featured her singing in a celebrity special on the BBC music competition show in 2018 now all together sings “Bigspender” by Shirley Bassey.
