Garbage truck kills pedestrians near Barclays Center

A pedestrian died Friday after being hit by a garbage truck in Brooklyn, police said.
The 62-year-old man was crossing the street at Flatbush Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights just before 4 p.m. when he was hit, police said.
The 37-year-old driver remained at the scene, the police determined.
The pedestrian’s body was still stuck under the truck hours later, shocking passers-by.

“I’m pissed because if my loved one lay under that truck all those hours, I’d be pissed as hell,” said Lisa Romano, 57, of Bensonhurst. “I do not understand.”
A viewer told the Post the incident “happened so quickly.”
“I turned the corner and came back and I was like the hell,” said the man, who asked not to be named. “Like he’s really under that truck.”

Several people who live or work in the area urged truck drivers to be more careful.
“When I’m home, I see them driving recklessly all the time,” said a local resident.
“Every time I close up shop and cross the street, I almost get hit by a car,” said a man who works at Atlantic Terminal. “The city needs to find a better way to power these streetlights differently. This is a crazy road.”
No further details about the incident were released immediately.
