In a Wired interview, Honnold responds to Twitter questions from climbing enthusiasts. A fan wants to know how a climber handles toilet visits while climbing. Honnold says the bathroom experience today is different than it was six decades ago. “People used to just go to the bathroom in a brown paper bag and just throw it off the wall…it’s incredibly frowned upon these days,” Honnold explained.
A better and acceptable restroom option is to take your waste with you. Honnold explains that on multi-day wall visits, he uses his used water jugs to carry out his waste,
“You poop in a bag, bundle the bag up and you can duck tape it up so it’s a little sealed bundle and you can leave it in your used water jugs and tape that up.”
Honnold then explains that after sealing the jars, the jars basically dangle under the haulbags. Once climbers are down, they can take their litter with them and dispose of it properly. Honnold says it’s part of understanding that climbers go through with it and leave the area as they found it.
A look into Honnold’s life after El Cap
Corresponding ESPN, Honnold wants to increase his athletic speed and improve his grip. In order to become a versatile climber, he is now making the way for team rather than solo climbing. “Improvement makes me feel good,” he says. “It’s exciting to strive for something new, even if it’s not impressive.”
said Honnold HBR that his life is more balanced when he climbs with friends without having a clear goal in mind. He says: “I have a casual lifestyle mode: I stay up late, watch TV and eat dessert.”
