DENVER (KDVR) – There was some confusion Wednesday as families across Colorado tried to find free state-distributed KN95 masks through several libraries and community centers.
Here’s what a state spokesperson provided on Wednesday:
Please check covid19.colorado.gov/freemasks or call the Colorado Covid-19 hotline at 1-877-CO VAX CO (1-877-268-2926) to find a location near you. Only the sites listed on this site are currently distributing masks. Those sites opted in to the program, and the masks were distributed yesterday. We appreciate the patience of Coloradans as the distribution sites go live. We’re adding more fire stations, YMCAs, VFWs and more as we ship them masks. We invited those types of sites to opt-in to the distribution program. ”
Families showed up next Wednesday Various places are listed on the website. Some locations have masks and some don’t, depending on when they receive the goods and the speed at which the masks are distributed. So it’s probably a good idea to call the location to check on supplies before going there.
By midday, those at the Koelbel Library in Arapahoe County were all out of luck.
William Valle said: “What they got was gone.
According to the state, it delivered 82,500 KN95 and 226,000 surgical masks to distribution points on Tuesday and shipped more on Wednesday. Kenneth Lyn-Kew, a critical care physician at National Jewish Health, says these masks offer better protection.
“With this more contagious variant, we wanted the best possible protection to limit the spread,” says Lyn-Kew. “N95 is the US standard for this. In China, the standard is KN95 and both block 95% of particles,” he said.
When to wear an N95 mask?
Many people have complained about the price of masks and the market being flooded with fakes, so Lyn-Kew believes government programs are a good choice. But many people are still wondering, when should these masks be applied?
“In an ideal world, you would wear it every time you put on a mask. In a more utilitarian world, you would wear it whenever you were in a higher-risk situation,” says Lyn-Kew.
Plus, there will be another option soon. In the coming days, the federal government will ship N95 masks to pharmacies and healthcare centers around the country. They will be freely available to the public next weekend.
A Walgreens spokesperson said a select number of pharmacies will distribute those masks under the federal plan, but the details are still unclear.
