Like his MVP quarterback, Packers wide receiver Davante Adams’ future lies in Green Bay.

The Packers used the franchise tag to keep Adams hours after Aaron Rodgers confirmed he would be returning for the 2022 season. Adams was one of five NFL players to receive the tag Tuesday before the 4 p.m. ET deadline and one of eight overall.

Adams beats wide receiver franchise tag bidding value and would earn more than $20 million in 2022 from the bidding. Since his 2021 cap hit was nearly $16.8 million, his franchise number is $20.1 million.

The Packers and Adams are reportedly “not close” to a long-term deal. Adams openly insisted he should be the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver, said contract general manager Brian Gutekunst, who the All-Pro deserves. The sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement.

Adams has 669 receptions with the Packers, including 123 in 2021 and 115 in 2020, while playing just 14 games this season. He has 29 touchdown catches over the past two seasons.

–The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used franchise tag to keep Chris Godwin on the field for a second straight year. The two sides have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal under the terms of the tag.

Last March, the Buccaneers gave Godwin the “non-exclusive” franchise tag, meaning he could discuss a deal with other teams. Tampa Bay reserves the right to adjust any contract offer.

Godwin, who is recovering from a season-ending knee injury, would be making about $19.2 million a day in 2022 if the two sides can’t negotiate a long-term deal.

Godwin, 26, had a career-high 98 passes for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in 14 starts in 2021. He tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in a Week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Godwin is expected to miss training camp and preseason, but he could be back by the start of the regular season barring complications in his recovery.

-Tight end Dalton Schultz was tagged by the Dallas Cowboys and guaranteed his 2022 salary of $10.931 million.

Schultz, 25, was a fourth-round pick in 2018 and caught 78 passes for 808 yards and eight touchdowns last season. The Cowboys are unsure if Blake Jarwin (hip) will be available to start the 2022 season.

The Cowboys also announced they created $22 million in Cap Space by restructuring the contracts of quarterback Dak Prescott and offense guard Zack Martin as the new league year approaches. The team saved $15 million on Prescott’s deal and $7 million on Martin’s by converting a portion of his 2022 salary into a signing bonus.

According to the Cowboys, Prescott has had a 120.0 passer rating since 2020 when he aimed at Schultz.

-The Miami Dolphins placed the franchise tag on tight end Mike Gesicki.

Like Schultz with the Cowboys and David Njoku with the Cleveland Browns, Gesicki will earn a salary of $10.931 million in 2022 once the tender offer is signed.

The 26-year-old Gesicki recorded career-high catches (73) and receiving yards (780) last season, along with two touchdowns in 17 games. Gesicki has 199 catches for 2,255 yards and 13 touchdowns in 64 career games since being selected by the Dolphins in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

-The Jacksonville Jaguars placed the franchise tag on left tackle Cam Robinson for the second year in a row.

Robinson, 26, will earn $16.66 million from the tender unless the sides can reach a long-term agreement by the July 15 deadline. Robinson earned $13.754 million last season.

Robinson has started all 61 games he’s played for the Jaguars since they picked him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
