PARIS (Reuters) – France will not boycott the Beijing Olympics, French Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said on Thursday.
“For a diplomatic boycott… France won’t do it… Sport itself is a world that must be protected from political interference, or else… we might end up killing ourselves. kill the opponent,” Blanquer said on BFM TV.
He said human rights abuses in China must be condemned, but added that Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu would attend the Beijing Olympics. Paris will host the Summer Olympics in 2024.
