Attorney General Mark Hanna, who heads the Special Crimes Divisions, says the program is already having an impact as the operation has already made 93 arrests, identifying a total of 11 different gangs. 16 firearms and 23,267 pounds of narcotics were also seized.

The Special Crimes Unit is responsible for the treatment and investigation of gang-related crimes.

Hanna adds that despite these arrests, their efforts to fight gang crime are not over as they plan to bring these individuals to justice in court.

“We are active, we are proactive. We’re doing everything we can to protect our community,” Middleton said. “We will try to hold every criminal accountable.”

Middleton also adds a tip parents should be aware of if they suspect their child is getting involved with a gang. He says signs to look out for include commonly used hand signals, changes in clothing/appearance, changes in friends, and changes in behavior at school. He also says parents should also closely monitor their children’s social media.
