Former Maryland Mayor Andrew Bradshaw avoids jail in revenge porn case

A former Maryland mayor who admitted to posting revenge porn photos of his ex-girlfriend on Reddit will avoid jail time in a plea deal reached with prosecutors on Monday.

Former Cambridge Mayor Andrew Bradshaw has pleaded guilty to five counts of distributing revenge porn online after his relationship with the woman ended.

He was sentenced to a year and a day on each of the five counts, but his entire sentence was suspended under the deal.

Bradshaw, 32, was also sentenced to a $5,000 fine — $1,000 for each count — along with $750 in compensation to the victim and 100 hours of community service, according to prosecutors.

He faced a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine for each count.

The former mayor was arrested in November after investigators discovered he had made several separate public posts of his naked ex-girlfriend that contained “at least 10 unique visual depictions” in various Reddit threads from different accounts with demeaning comments.

In one such case, according to prosecutors, on April 4, 2021, Bradshaw posted a nude photo of the woman to a sub-Reddit account titled “Slut” with the caption, “He’s resurrected but I want to resurrect something in your pants 😉 .”

In another case, on April 15, 2021, Bradshaw posted a nude photo in a child Reddit account titled “Chubby” with the caption “Ready to ride you,” the prosecutor said.

When questioned by investigators, he admitted to law enforcement officials that he created the Reddit accounts and published the victim’s file.

He later resigned as mayor.

“Anyone who abuses another’s trust and confidence to demean and humiliate them, particularly through the use of a forum as powerful and ubiquitous as the Internet, must be held accountable,” said Attorney Charlton T. Howard III in an explanation.

“Such acts are especially egregious when committed by a person holding a public leadership role with power and authority,” Howard said.

It is illegal under Maryland law to distribute without their consent a private visual depiction of another person that reveals their private parts or engages in sexual activity with the intention of hurting, harassing, intimidating, or intimidating the depicted person threaten or coerce.
