Floyd Mayweather offers $20 NFL teams to take on Antonio Brown

Floyd Mayweather makes NFL teams an offer they can’t accept.

The boxing legend appeared on The Pivot Podcast and tried to make a suggestion to NFL teams that he would take the risk if they signed struggling wide receiver Antonio Brown, but it didn’t work.

“I think AB is really misunderstood,” Mayweather said. “He just wants to be treated fairly. And that’s for every team that’s watching right now. We’re going to make them a deal: if they sign AB and they do AB all season, there won’t be any problems at all, and then they have to give us $20 million. But if he messes up, we have to give them $20 million. So if a team wants to compete, you know, reach out to us.

Even if an NFL team wanted to make that deal with Mayweather, one would imagine it would violate the league’s salary caps. Furthermore, it would be impossible for either side to reconcile the subjective terms of Brown’s behavior.

Brown is running out of NFL teams that would plausibly give him a chance. He has built bridges to the Steelers, Raiders, Patriots and Buccaneers.

The last time we saw him on a football field, Brown ripped his jersey off the field and ran off the field in the third quarter of the Bucs’ Week 18 game against the Jets at MetLife Stadium. After tossing his shirt and gloves in the stands, he did jumping jacks in the end zone as he jogged from the field to the dressing room.

A battle of words ensued between Brown and the organization, in which Brown claimed the Bucs mishandled his ankle injury. Former teammate Mike Evans said Brown was upset about not getting the ball when achievable performance bonuses were near. The franchise said Brown wanted those bonuses guaranteed in the days leading up to his departure from the team.

This offseason, Brown has been hanging out with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, also saying he’d like a chance to join the Dallas Cowboys.
