Florida man Charles Tanner arrested for rape and false imprisonment

A Florida man has been accused of brutally raping, beating and starving a woman while he held her captive for five days – before she managed to escape and call for help.

Charles Tanner, 51, was arrested Wednesday in Brevard County on charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault, assault, false imprisonment, aggravated assault and cyber sexual harassment.

He remained in the county jail without bail Friday pending his indictment, which is scheduled for July 26.

According to a warrant affidavit obtained by The Post, the incident came to light on June 8 after the alleged victim, identified only by his initials AH, turned up at a neighbor’s house in the middle of the night naked and bruised.

The document described in harrowing detail how the woman was repeatedly abused – including with a cucumber and a cob of corn – and abused, whipped with a power cable, denied food and water and threatened with a knife.

The victim told investigators that she had known Tanner for five years and had a relationship with him that ended a month ago.

She said she went to Tanner’s home on June 3 after he offered to give her any medication she wanted, according to court records.

After “enjoying her high” for a few hours, the woman claimed Tanner demanded sex from her as payment.

The couple had consensual sex for an hour, but things took a violent turn when the woman revealed to Tanner that she had a tryst with another man during their relationship.

“The defendant then kicked AH in the head,” the affidavit reads. “Over the next few days, the defendant hit AH with a closed fist and berated her for her infidelity during their relationship],” the affidavit reads.

Throughout the ordeal, Tanner allegedly smoked methamphetamines, forced himself on the woman, or made her perform oral sex on him, “to the point where she threw up in a bucket,” the document said.

The woman said she was sexually assaulted at least 10 times during her captivity, including being raped with a “plastic sex toy, a cucumber and a corn on the cob,” according to the filing.

Tanner also allegedly took pictures with the victim’s phone of herself penetrating her and sent those pictures to her friends and father on Facebook while she passed out.

To prevent the woman from escaping at night, Tanner allegedly slept on top of her or in an armchair blocking the bedroom door.

The victim claimed Tanner repeatedly told her he wanted to kill her and on one occasion allegedly held a butcher knife to her cheek.

Another time, Tanner, who was becoming increasingly paranoid about his continued methamphetamine use, warned the woman that if cops showed up at his home, he would, according to the affidavit, “slit her throat with a knife.”

After five days of rapes and beatings that left the woman with two broken ribs, she finally managed to slip out from under Tanner in her sleep and run to a neighbor’s house for help.

Tanner has a criminal history in Florida, according to investigators, which includes a 2013 case in which he was arrested on similar charges after a woman ran naked from his home.

The victim in that case told police that she was held against her will by Tanner for several days, during which time he allegedly beat and raped her and filmed himself urinating and defecating on her with her phone.
