Flight attendant beat unruly passenger with coffee pot, preventing him from opening plane door: Eyewitness

LOS ANGELES – A flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Washington DC had to be diverted to Kansas City when a passenger allegedly tried to open the plane’s door.

Video from a passenger on the plane shows a person lying on the ground at the end of an aisle inside the plane.

The person who shot the video told ABC7 in Los Angeles that an unruly passenger tried to get into the plane’s cockpit moments before trying to open the plane’s door.

That’s when a flight attendant swung a coffee pot at the unruly passenger, hitting him several times and sending him to the ground where the other passengers held him.

American Airlines released a statement saying:

“We are grateful to our crew members, who are dedicated to the safety and care of our customers, and handle situations with the utmost skill and professionalism. “

American Airlines said Flight 1775 landed safely Sunday afternoon at Kansas City International Airport and law enforcement boarded the plane upon arrival. The FBI said in a statement that the passenger “interfered with the crew” and was detained.

Details about that person were not immediately released.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
