Gemma Atkinson on her return to Hollyoaks

Diehard Hollyoaks and Lisa viewers go back to when actress Gemma Atkinson portrayed the character in the early 2000s.

Lisa was involved in many dramatic storylines in Hollyoaks, some involving bullying and self-harm.

However, as any fan of the show knows, Gemma left the program in 2005 to pursue new acting endeavors, which led to her appearing in Emmerdale and Casualty and taking part in the 2017 finale of Strictly.

Her return to Chester was teased and then confirmed in November 2021.

Gemma remains adamant in telling viewers not to expect her to stay around as her appearance will be “very, very brief”.

“I’m kind of in and out,” Gemma said, “so it’s absolutely fabulous that I am [returning]but it’s no big deal.”

“I don’t want people to think they’re going to have a long, long ride with Lisa Hunter. It’s kind of in and out.”

While the reasons behind her on-screen return have yet to be clarified, Gemma mentioned that despite all her work away from Hollyoaks, the soap still held a special place in her heart.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve returned and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to,” she said, “I love Hollyoaks and the team there is great.”

Gemma continued: “I made a career out of Hollyoaks. It was my very first job. So I’ve always said if I ever had the time I’d love to go back and we managed to buy some time.”
