first date Barman Merlin Griffiths has paid tribute to the NHS after having a colon tumor removed.

The professional bartender, who stars on Channel 4’s romance reality show, was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer last September. First he explained that he had stomach pains since June.

Since then, he has informed his fans about the development of his health via social media.

On Friday (April 15) he shared a photo from his hospital bed after waking up from surgery to remove a tumor.

“2am. Tubes out everywhere. Discomfort and pain. But no tumor!” he wrote on Instagram. He also included the hashtag #BowelCancerAwarenessMonth as April coincides with an annual effort to raise awareness of the disease.

Griffiths also posted the selfie to Twitter, along with a picture of a surgical robot.

“Thank you #NHS for literally saving my life,” he captioned the pics.

Followers and peers alike have shared their well wishes. CiCi Coleman, who also appears on first date as a waitress left four red heart emojis on the Instagram post, while one fan wrote: “This is amazing news!! Now forward and upwards!!”

Griffiths initially shared that he was preparing for surgery in March. Hours before the procedure, he shared that he was “ready as I will ever be,” with another picture taken in a hospital bed.
