JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The first case of the COVID-19 variant, omicron, has arrived in Missouri, according to the Missouri Department of Health.
Someone who lives in St. Louis is said to be positive for the variant after the person’s sample is sequenced for the variant at the laboratory. The state is currently waiting for CDC confirmation.
State leaders say they are working with other public health authorities to track the increase in the number of omicron cases in Missouri. The agency continues to recommend that people adhere to prevention strategies such as wearing masks in indoor public places, washing hands frequently, and staying away from others.
The Missouri Department of Health also encourages everyone 5 years of age and older to protect themselves with full and booster immunizations, where possible.
