Firefighters at a nursing home in Washington are forcing 77 patients to evacuate

A fire at a Washington state nursing home forced patients and staff to flee to safety late Wednesday night. According to the Montesano Police.

Police say 77 patients and 29 staff were safely evacuated from the Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center to the local high school gymnasium.

Police said some patients are still in hospice care at other facilities and hospitals in the area.

The Grays Harbor 911 Center responded to a call from the medical facility, and witnesses reported smoke in the kitchen and flames on the roof around 5:30 p.m

However, no injuries are reported The Red Cross alongside civil protection teams reached with immediate help and emergency support.

Three local fire departments have been asked for additional help to help with the evacuation effort at the nursing home.

According to their website, the Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center provides care for patients recovering from injury, surgery, or end-of-life care.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
