The pair appeared on It Takes Two on Friday, where John broke down in tears as he watched touching tributes from friends and family ahead of his final performance this weekend.
The Great British Bake Off winner revealed that he had such a great experience on the show that winning was no longer important to him.
He explained: ‘I don’t care about winning! I know I shouldn’t say it, I don’t care – I don’t care if we lift the glitter ball because I think we did. We did it and I’m so proud of us. ‘
Johannes revealed that winning with a male counterpart would mean a lot to him, but he was ‘grateful’ that the voting public got behind them and made them to the final.
He added: ‘It will restore my faith in humanity. I’ll dive into that because that’s what [winning] does that mean.
‘It’s huge, it’s big, but the fact that we’re here speaks volumes so I’m grateful we did, to be honest.
John and Johannes will only face Rose and Giovanni after finalist AJ Odudu, who was paired with Kai Widdrington, was forced to withdraw.
AJ suffered a ligament injury in his leg prevented her from dancing this weekend, with doctors warning she could face a year of rehab if she does.
She and Kai were both in tears as they also appeared on the show, where they received messages of support from her friends and family.
The Serious Dance Finale airs at 7pm on Saturday on BBC One.
