Fayetteville Fire Chief Dies After Battle With Cancer

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WNCN) — The Fayetteville Fire Department battalion commander lost his battle with cancer.

Battalion commander John Bowen died Saturday “after battling cancer for several months,” according to officials.

According to a statement on the fire department’s social media, Bowen has been with the Fayetteville Fire Department since graduating from the academy in 2008.

“A humble servant, Chief Bowen always sought to help those in need, and his passion for serving the City of Fayetteville was evident every day he came to work,” officials said. “Chief Bowen was a role model that many firefighters and officers wanted to emulate, and Bowen spent time putting his life into others to see them succeed.”
