Famed violinist Itzhak Perlman lists an $18 million New York home

Legendary Israeli-born American violinist Itzhak Perlman and his wife Toby have listed their townhouse on the Upper West Side for $17.5 million.
Located at 21 W. 70th St. off Central Park West, the stunning 20-foot-wide turn-of-the-century townhouse offers everything a world-class “reigning virtuoso of the violin” could need – from space for a grand piano to the indoor pool.
At 8,000 square meters, the stately residence has five to six bedrooms, six fireplaces, five bathrooms and four powder rooms.
There are hardwood floors throughout and lots of custom woodwork.
The parlor level features 12 foot ceilings and a 36 foot great room.
The outdoor area is just as fabulous – 1,500 square meters, including a landscaped terrace, garden and roof terrace.

“They raised their family here, but their children are all grown up now and the house is just too big for two people,” said a friend, adding that they live in the neighborhood. “They love the Upper West Side. It’s all about the proximity to Lincoln Center.”
The home also features a huge chef’s kitchen in neutral tones with blue and white tiles and a dining room with skylights and easy access to the garden created for entertaining.
The couple – both violinists – are also founders of the Perlman Music Program for gifted young string players.
The listing brokers are Richard Steinberg, Alexander Mignogna and Emanuele Fiore of Compass.
