(Reuters) – Discovery Inc said on Wednesday that the European Commission had granted unconditional antitrust approval to a proposal to buy WarnerMedia assets from AT&T Inc.

Regulatory approval takes the deal one step further to closing. Discovery said it expects to complete the WarnerMedia transaction in mid-2022, subject to other regulatory approvals.

AT&T announced in May that it would spin off its WarnerMedia division and merge with Discovery, effectively resolving its $85 billion acquisition of Time Warner that ended in 2018.
