Well, that’s a little… strange.
Beloved ‘Stranger Things’ star Maya Hawke – daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke – admitted she never saw some of her mom and dad’s most famous films.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Hawke, 24, admitted she had some “big holes” when it came to seeing the work of the one-time Hollywood power couple.
“I hadn’t seen ‘Pulp Fiction’ until a few years ago,” Hawke revealed. “I still haven’t seen any of them ‘Kill Bill’ movies.”
Hawke also admitted he never saw “Reality Bites,” which Ethan starred in alongside Winona Ryder, his daughter’s current co-star.
“I know Winona quite well, and of course I’m a huge fan of her work and my father’s work,” she said.
“Some of these movies feel like such a big deal that we all want to sit down and watch them together, but it’s rarely the right time when everyone’s like, ‘Let’s get together and watch my movies!'”
Despite the glaring gaps in her film education, Hawke calls acting her “greatest passion,” even more so than her musical career, which she spoke to the outlet about at length.
Discussing her controversial new topless music video for “Thérèse,” she said, “If everyone liked it, it wouldn’t have to exist.”
More importantly, Hawke shared anticipated revelations for the final season of Stranger Things – many of which are sure to break the hearts of fans worldwide.
“Well it’s the last season so probably people will die. I would like to die and have my hero moment. I would love to die with honor like any actor would,” Hawke said. “But I love how the Duffer Brothers love their actors. The reason they write so beautifully for me and for everyone else is because they fall in love with their actors and their characters and don’t want to kill them. I think that’s a beautiful quality they have and I wouldn’t wish it away.”
Despite her desire for an Eddie Munson-esque goodbye, Hawke said she’d like to keep her on-screen relationship with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) alive after the show has ended.
“I wouldn’t normally be a big fan of a spinoff, but if I got my hands on Joe Keery, I’d do anything. He’s so funny and wonderful and smart, and he has big boundaries. He’s an excellent colleague and I would do anything with him,” she said, suggesting a show where the two meet New York for the nightlife, “and find out how we know each other.”
Hawke also admitted that her character is actively involved in getting Steve back with Nancy Wheeler, played by Natalia Dyer.
“I think Robin will definitely betray Steve and Nancy. I think Robin definitely wants what would make Steve happiest, which certainly seems to be Nancy,” Hawke said.
“Personally, I think the beauty of the show is that it was never really about romance. People always send characters on this show, but really, this show is about friendship,” she said.
