Erin Andrews has done her fair share of side interviews over the years, but Monday’s exchange between UNC’s Hubert Davis and reporter Tracy Wolfson might now stand as one of the most memorable she’s witnessed.
As the Tar Heels battled the Kansas Jayhawks in the first half of the national championship game, Wolfson chatted with a heated-up Davis, the UNC freshman head coach.
“We’re competing out there – it’s live action, Tracy. It’s live action out there,” Davis began on the court. “At first I thought we were nervous, but then we settled in. We’ve gotten better defensively, now we’re attacking the basket, we’re ready to go.”
The interview quickly took off on Twitter, and Andrews joined the crowds to chime in.
“I would love it if every interview was like this. Fantastic,” the longtime NFL reporter tweeted.
Though UNC finished the first half 40-25 ahead of Kansas (40-25), the No. 1-seeded Jayhawks stormed back in the second to claim the season’s championship with a 72-69 win.
With March Madness 2022 officially coming to an end, Wolfson — CBS Sports’ lead NFL and NCAA basketball sideline reporter — took a moment Monday night to express why this tournament meant so much to her.
“So lucky to have my husband by my side throughout the weekend. Got the incredible opportunity to be a ball boy for the Final Four. #Memories,” Wolfson, a mother of three, tweeted next to a photo of her son.
