Enough fentanyl to kill 390,000 people seized in a multi-county NC drug raid


ASHEBORO, NC (WGHP) — Lawmakers seized pounds of fentanyl following a drug investigation.

They were executing a search warrant at Donald Robert Lynch’s home on Spencer Road in Archdale, according to MPs. Detectives estimated “a trafficking quantity” of fentanyl and methamphetamine, bath salts and steroids. Six firearms and drug paraphernalia were also confiscated.

After searching Archdale’s home, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office assisted a search warrant at a Bennett business believed to be operated by Donald Lynch.

A total of 783.9 grams of fentanyl and 367 grams of methamphetamine were found. That’s 1.7 pounds of fentanyl and almost a pound of meth.

the According to the DEA, as little as 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be a lethal dose. So 783.9 grams equals 783,900 milligrams, which could equate to 390,000 lethal doses of the opioid.

Donald Robert Lynch was indicted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office

  • Criminal possession of a firearm by a criminal
  • Two counts of heroin trafficking
  • Crime methamphetamine trafficking
  • Two counts of possession of felonies with intent to manufacture/sell/supply Schedule II
  • Crime Possession with Intent to Sell/Supply Schedule VI
  • Offenses in servicing a vehicle/home/controlled substance location
  • Administrative offense simple ownership plan III
  • Illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center and placed on $150,000 bail and electronic house arrest.

Lynch was indicted by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office

  • Crime heroin trafficking
  • Crime Possession Plan I
  • Crime possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver Schedule I
  • Crime maintaining a vehicle/home/controlled substance location
  • Illegal possession of drug paraphernalia

He received an additional $15,000 secured bond.
