England rugby league star George Burgess is being questioned by Australian police officers over allegedly sexually touching a woman.
A woman made a complaint to Sydney Police last week.
The accusation came as the 29-year-old started a new season in National Rugby League with the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Police say an investigation is ongoing into the alleged incident on Tuesday, March 8.
A statement from New South Wales Police said: “Earlier this month officers from the South Sydney Police Area Command began an investigation into reports that a woman was sexually touched by a man she knows on Tuesday March 8 .
“These investigations are ongoing.”
St George also released a statement which read: “The St George Illawarra Dragons have been brought to the attention of the NRL Integrity Unit of a matter involving one of their players.
“The Dragons are working closely with all parties as the matter is under police investigation.”
Burgess has represented England 15 times during his rugby league career.
He has spent most of his club time Down Under with South Sydney and now St George Illawarra.
The Yorkshire-born prop had a spell with Wigan Warriors in the Super League in 2020.
But he returned to the NRL the following year and is signed with the Dragons until 2023.
