ZAK CRAWLEY is getting ready for a test recall on Gift Day as England begin weeding out their failed players.
Crawley, 23, was prepared to open in the Third Test against Australia with an assessment by either Rory Burns or Haseeb Hameed.
And Jonny Bairstow, 32, is favorite to replace Ollie Pope at No 6 in a match England must win to have any chance of getting it back. Ashes.
Crawley hasn’t played a single Test since glitching in the summer series against India and scored a pretty low average this year.
His international career stalled after scoring 267 goals against Pakistan at Southampton in 2020.
But he has made some technical tweaks that England believe could fix his problems with throw-ins.
The 6ft 5in tall Crawley also looked impressive in the net and seemed to enjoy the shots of the Australian pitchers.
Burns has struggled since being hit by The Ashes’ first ball, while Hameed is vulnerable at the top as well as fouls on the pitch.

And Pope looks like a walking wick.
Bairstow is likely to replace him at the MCG although Dan Lawrence of Essex is an option.
Fast bowler Mark Wood will return, while Jack Leach will play.
