The handy hack went viral over the summer after a TikTok creator, manager @Leahova, shared a post about it.

The 20-second clip begins with Leah tackling a critical problem many teleworkers face today: Boss software, or the micromanagement of teleworkers. .

“If you work from home and you carry your laptop around the house because you’re so paranoid that 30 minutes away from your desk during lunch, your computer will ‘disappear’, and then you’ll be fired. Because no one will think you’re doing any work, I have something to recommend,” she said.

Leah, who has worked as a telemarketer since the start of the pandemic, then mentioned the mouse mover and described its function.

“It’s called a hover machine, it moves your mouse when you’re away, so you can go to the bathroom without being paranoid,” she says in the video.

Since going live, the video has garnered more than 3 million views, 265,800 likes and nearly 2,000 comments.

One user in the comments section explained how their job records their computer screens throughout the day, further highlighting concerns surrounding the software boss.

“Working remotely, your co-workers can’t ‘see’ when you get up to go to the bathroom or have lunch, or even take 30 minutes to get back in your chair,” Leah told Vice’s tech website, Motherboard.

“The last thing I want in those moments is to be paranoid that people think I’m not working – especially because I feel like I’m working more than ever,” she added.

Leah went on to tell Motherboard that the device is especially useful when she needs some time to care for her three children, all of whom are taking classes remotely to get to school.

The touchpad can be found on both Amazon and eBay and ranges from $12 to $30.
