“Elvis” was hard to watch because I lived it

Exactly 45 years after Elvis Presley’s untimely death, his former wife Priscilla Presley shared which scenes from the movie “Elvis” she found the hardest to endure.

Baz Luhrmann’s biopic tells the heartbreaking life story of the legendary singer, including his unhappy marriage to Priscilla.

The 77-year-old – who was married to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll from 1967 to 1973 – told the Today show she had a hard time understanding the development of Presley’s relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker watch.

She also said it was a bitter pill to see the singer wanting to take his career beyond music and into “serious” film work – but ultimately failed.

“He wanted to make films, serious films, and Colonel Parker probably should have stayed a publicist,” she told the outlet. “He didn’t get Elvis where he wanted to be and that was tough because I lived it.

“I lived the arguments that they had, I experienced Elvis trying to explain that he didn’t want to do movies with all the girls and the beaches and everything, that he really wanted to do serious things,” she continued.

“Living that with him and seeing the film brought back a lot of memories.”

Presley sang her praises for the film and officially gave her her seal of approval in April.

In a Facebook post this month, the Naked Gun actress said she saw the film with Jerry Schilling, her late ex-husband’s longtime boyfriend, and was impressed that Austin Butler took on the title role.

“The story is about the relationship between Elvis and Colonel Parker,” Presley wrote. “It’s a brilliantly and creatively told true story that only Baz could have delivered with his unique artistry. Austin Butler who played Elvis is outstanding.

“Halfway through the movie Jerry and I looked at each other and said WOW!!!” she shared. “Bravo to him… he knew he had big shoes to fill. He was extremely nervous about playing the role. I can only imagine.”

The beloved crooner died of a heart attack on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42 at his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.
