Trailer for Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming biography ELVIS was released – and people were divided.

Movie stars Austin Butler (Carrie Diaries, Transforming birth, Zoey 101) as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll with Olivia DeJonge (Visit and Society) plays his wife Priscilla.

Tom Hanks will also appear in the film as Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s Dutch-born manager.

The trailer has been highly anticipated with many fans looking forward to Luhrmann’s film (formerly The great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge).

However, viewers are divided by Butler’s role as a late icon.

One wrote: “I look at Austin Butler and think that not only does he not look like Elvis, but more importantly, he doesn’t feel like him.

Another questioned whether Austin Butler was “too young by 3-5 years old?”

“Austin Butler as Elvis feels so wrong but let’s see what happens,” another added.

However, others were more than delighted to see Nickelodeon aluminum take on the role.

One said: “I can’t lie, it’s so sad that Austin Butler got the role of Elvis.

“Just seeing ELVIS trailer and Austin Butler looks amazing in it,” another wrote. While a third person wrote that “his transformation into Elvis looks promising”.

Another added: “Austin Butler doesn’t look like Elvis. But he has a voice and moves down so softly, it’s scary.”

In the trailer, the 30-year-old actor wears Presley’s signature hairstyle and smudged eyeliner.

The three-minute clip begins with Presley’s formative experiences as a boy and his rise to stardom. The end of the trailer captures a midlife crisis. “I will soon be 40 years old,” he was heard to say. “And no one will remember me.”

It has been confirmed that Butler will be singing in the film, with his excerpts from his performances of “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Jailhouse Rock” and “Suspicious Minds” appearing throughout the trailer.

However, as Butler’s Elvis ages, his character’s voice is a mix of Butler and Presley’s gang.

ELVIS has faced a two-year delay due to the pandemic. During the production of the film, Hanks became one of the first celebrities to test positive for Covid-19 in March 2020.

The film hits theaters on June 24.
