Elon Musk said Thursday that he’s “literally in the toilet” when he posts on Twitter.
“I tweet more or less stream of consciousness,” the Tesla CEO said in an interview amid his bid to buy the social media site for $41 billion. “I’m literally on the toilet or like, ‘Oh that’s funny,’ and then I tweet that.
“It’s like most of them, you know, over-sharing,” Musk added during an interview with TED Talks boss Chris Anderson. “I try to tweet things that are interesting or funny and then people seem to like it.”
The mogul – who uses Twitter to post memes and thoughts, often multiple times a day – made the comments just hours after his bid to buy Twitter was posted.
The offer, which Twitter’s board is considering, capped a two-week string of taunts Musk launched against the embattled social media giant.
Shortly after announcing his stake, Musk immediately began teasing possible moves, including turning Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter.
Musk also suggested adding a button to edit tweets.
During Thursday’s interview, Musk mused that one way to reduce abuse of the edit button would be to “wipe out” retweets and favorites when a tweet is edited.
He also said that “eliminating the spam and scam bots and the bot armies” would be a top priority if he took over Twitter.
In Thursday’s securities filing announcing his takeover bid, Musk used blunt language, telling the Twitter board, “I’m not playing the back-and-forth game.”
“I went straight to the end,” said the entrepreneur. “It’s a big price and your shareholders will love it.”
Tesla’s billionaire CEO has asked to overturn a 2018 consent decree with the Securities and Exchange Commission that requires his tweets about the electric carmaker and its business to be reviewed by a company lawyer. It’s not clear if any of his toilet tweets were company-related.
But he also admitted in the TED Interview that he has a “plan B” if Twitter doesn’t take up the offer. He did not want to give details of the plans.
