Elon Musk changes Twitter name to “Elona” in dispute with Putin’s cronies Kadyrov

Elon Musk’s feud with the Kremlin took another strange turn this week after the billionaire changed his Twitter name to “Elona” after Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov mocked him.

Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic, slammed Musk after the billionaire tongue-in-cheek suggestion that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin fight a “one-on-one battle.”

Kadyrov, a close Putin ally, responded with a lengthy post calling Musk a “gentle (feminine) Elona” and inviting him to train with Chechen special forces to prepare for combat.

Kadyrov said Musk would return from the trip a “completely different person.” Musk responded by sharing a translation of Kadyrov’s post and turning down the offer of training.

“Thank you for the offer, but such excellent training would give me too much of an advantage. If he’s scared of the fight I will agree to only use my left hand and I’m not even left handed,” Musk tweeted, signing his post with the name “Elona.”

The Tesla founder also changed his Twitter display name to reflect Kadyrov’s mockery.

Musk initially challenged Putin to a fight earlier this week as Russia escalated its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, tweeting, “At stake is Ukraine.”

Dmitry Rogozin, head of the Russian space agency Roskosmos, tweeted in response to Muskcalling him a “little devil”.

“Compete with me weakling; it would just be a waste of time. First overtake my brother,” said Rogozin.

Musk has tweeted about the fight multiple times since he first took on the challenge. In one post, Musk shared a meme of himself with a Boring Company flamethrower alongside an altered image of a naked Putin riding a bear.

“He can even bring his bear,” Musk wrote.

While Musk has poked fun at Russian officials on Twitter, he has played a serious role in supporting Ukraine during the invasion. SpaceX provided Starlink internet to Ukrainians to alleviate concerns that the population could lose access during hostilities.

Musk also issued a warning to Ukrainians to be careful when using the service, as the Russian military would likely target satellite signals with strikes. Elon Musk changes Twitter name to “Elona” in dispute with Putin’s cronies Kadyrov
