“Ellen and the team have done everything, and sometimes careers just don’t take off,” they said. “He took that time when he’s putting out an album to go after Ellen with opportunistic claims.”

The Independent has reached out to representatives from DeGeneres and Chance for comment.

Chance recently released his latest album, palladiumwhich comes a year after his last album, Trophies.

On Thursday (September 22), Chance posted a TikTok video saying he stands by every allegation he made against DeGeneres.

“You know, I’ve wanted to tell this story for several years now and have been told repeatedly not to, but the truth is, what you saw on TV and what was presented to the mainstream just wasn’t what it was scenes happened behind it,” he said.

According to Chance’s interview with Rolling Stone In first making the allegations, DeGeneres gave him $10,000 (£9,100) and a new piano and later signed him to her record label elfeleven as the first act, reportedly telling him, “I’ll protect you.” I will be there for you. We can do that together.”

Initially, Chance said, DeGeneres was “really invested in him.” But as his schedule got busier, she became “dominating and way too controlling” and began to feel like a “hidden eye” over his career, deciding what he wore and his creative output.

Chance said DeGeneres completely disappeared when his music started to underperform and “completely let him down” when his second record flopped in late 2012.

When he was dropped by his label group and management team, he reached out to DeGeneres but reportedly never heard a response. Meanwhile, he was still performing ellenwith his last appearance in 2019 to promote a new song.

“She came out during sound check and she looked at me, hugged me. And she said, ‘How are you?’ And that was killing me inside because I was like, ‘What do you mean how the fuck did I do? Where have you been?’” he recalled of his 2019 visit.

Earlier this year, the DeGeneres talk show ended after 19 seasons and more than 3,000 episodes.

In 2020, the show was the subject of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, racism and on-set bullying in the workplace.

DeGeneres said at the time the allegations were “too orchestrated” and “very misogynistic.”
