Elden Ring’s first speed run record

The first successful Elden Ring speedrun was met with much fanfare when it was announced on March 9th, 2022 Niko bellic managed to beat the game in just 2 hours and 35 minutes, and without a single death. Simply playing Elden Ring without dying is amazing on its own, let alone while picking up the pace.

While Niko’s performance is certainly impressive, several other speedrunners set out to beat his record. Within hours, someone did.

Second Elden Ring speedrun record

The next day, YouTubers LilAggy was the first to break Nico Bellic’s record with a speed run of 59 minutes and 38 seconds. This run also brought no death and blew the community away. You can watch his absolutely incredible run below.

LilAgg’s reign wasn’t to last long, however, as another Elden Ring speedrunner was also on the verge of setting his own record.

Before LilAggy could bask in the glory of her victory, speedrunner distortion2 managed to beat their record by more than ten minutes and finish Elden Ring in an incredible time 49 minutes and 29 seconds.

At the time of writing, Distortion2 remains the current Elden Ring speedrun record holder and has since smashed his first record more than a dozen times.

Distortion2 breaks its own record

Distortion2 has continued to break his own speed running records at the Elden Ring, with his current best being a staggering one 8 minutes and 56 seconds.

To date, the YouTuber has broken his own world record 13 times, and there’s absolutely no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Why Souls games are great for speedrunners

Speedrunners love Souls games because of the sheer amount of paths and options that are available. FromSoftware fills its games with shortcuts and secrets that are just ideal for speedrunning. Those familiar with the map and structure of these games will know that there are ways to bypass certain areas and access endgame content early.

Because of this, speedrunners target Souls games and compete against each other to complete them as quickly as possible. Even the original Demon’s Souls for PS3 was a playground for speedrunning. Its sequel, Dark Souls, was also a speed running favorite, with the world record being a completed time of 21 minutes and 17 seconds.

Bloodborne’s record is just two seconds shorter at 21 minutes and 15 seconds. Elden Ring is a much bigger game than anything FromSoftware has released before, but we suspect speedrunners have a lot more to show us before they’re done.
