Eight people shot dead in Baytown candlelight vigil shooting, Harris County delegates say

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) – One person was killed in a shooting that left at least seven others injured during a candlelit ceremony in Baytown, according to Harris County delegates.

It happened around 6:48 p.m. in section 1400 of the North Market Loop, where Sgt. Greg Campbell said a mother was holding a vigil for her son, who was killed at his home a few weeks ago.

“While they were celebrating life and releasing balloons into the air, an unidentified suspect drove down this road and fired bullets at the group of people,” Campbell said.

ABC13 spoke to a witness at the ceremony and said he heard about 20 to 30 gunshots.

“People were screaming and running to their cars,” said witness Sidney Williams.

According to Campbell, all of the victims transported themselves to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital. That’s where another incident occurred.

“By the time people got to the hospital, a major skirmish ensued and we had to reach out to other agencies to help with that massive skirmish,” Campbell said.
