EastEnders fans point out a big mistake after spotting a map on the taxi office wall

An eagle-eyed Eastenders fan spotted a major gaffe on the wall of the cab driver’s office.

Launched in 1984, the show is set in the fictional London Borough of Walford – postcode E20.

When the show began nearly 40 years ago, E20 didn’t exist until 2011, when the Stratford Olympic Park was built, and took on the fictional postcode

It was seen early in the taxi company’s office on Tuesday’s episode, with a fan noticing something unusual in the background.

A map of London could be seen in the background as Jean Slater moaned to her boyfriend Harvey about her daughter Stacey forbidding her to be alone with her grandchildren.

It was a very basic map with no roads and only the boundaries of each zip code, with each zip code clearly marked in the middle.

One viewer argued that Walford’s postcode – E20 – was not on the map.

The fan tweeted: “There is a London postcode map on the wall of the taxi office in #EastEnders and it does not include E20, Walford’s own postcode.”

But a close-up of the map shows E20 there, but not where Walford would be if it were real.

Most people assume that if Walford were a real place it would be roughly where Bromley-by-Bow is and the fictional Walford East tube station would be somewhere between Bow Road and West Ham on the Hammersmith and City lines and district.

The E20 on the map in today’s Eastenders was exactly where its real location is in Stratford, a bit further north than the fictional Walford.

The Walford name is a hybrid of Walthamstow and Stratford, two areas of Greater London where creators Julia Smith and Tony Holland were born.

Eastenders have moved to a brand new £87million location from the BBC’s Elstree Center – which has been their home for the past 38 years.

The EastEnders set was deemed obsolete back in 2016 and work began on the multi-million pound new location, suitable for HD films.

The set was only intended to be used for two years, but production continued there for decades.
