AUSTIN (KXAN) – Masks are now optional for all students, staff, and visitors in the Eanes Independent School District, according to an announcement on the district’s website Tuesday.
The district said masks remain “strongly recommended” for elementary and middle school students, until a vaccine is more readily available to young children.
Eanes ISD said it will continue to monitor local COVID-19 data and guidance from health officials to determine if the masking mission needs to be retaken in the future.
This happens when concerns are being raised about newly discovered omicron variant of the virus.
“We recognize the concern of a new variant but we also acknowledge that there may never be a perfect time to remove the masking mission entirely; the possibility that new variants may exist for the foreseeable future,” the district said.
Eanes ISD is strongly encouraging people in the community to get vaccinated, as it is “a line of defense”.
