E-bike stolen from beaten rider in Central Park in broad daylight

A thief struck an e-bike rider in the head in Central Park on Saturday afternoon and stole his bike, police officers said.

The crime happened around 2:30 p.m. in the park at West 106th Street and West Drive, when the 25-year-old victim was approached by the stranger, who hit him with a closed fist, police officers said.

The thief then stole the man’s e-bike and fled with it, the police said.

The victim had bruises on the side of his head but refused medical treatment.

All major crimes, including robberies, are up 40% this year from the same period last year, according to crime data released by the NYPD show.
