Duke tears Arkansas to reach Final Four

SAN FRANCISCO — There was a quiet moment among the 17,739 at the packed Chase Center just before the national anthem was scheduled to be played ahead of Saturday night’s West Region Finals between Duke and Arkansas when an Arkansas fan yelled, “This is a retiring group!” ”

The fan was, of course, referring to legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who was on his farewell tour this season after 42 brilliant years.

At the end of the night, however, the retirement party would have to wait until at least next Saturday night in New Orleans, where Duke will face off in the Final Four against the winner of Sunday’s Eastern Region Finals between St. Peter and North Carolina in Philadelphia.

The No. 2-seeded Blue Devils defeated No. 4-seeded Arkansas 78-69 to advance to Coach K’s record-breaking 13th Final Four.

Whatever happens in this national semi-final game, it’s going to be an intriguing duel as either Duke and Coach K will attempt to survive the irrepressible and historic magical run of No. 15 Saint Peter’s to advance to the national championship game…

… or Duke, who is getting in the way of ACC rival North Carolina.

North Carolina, of course, ruined Coach K’s last home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, an awkward 94-81 loss on March 5, prompting Krzyzewski to apologize to the crowd and call his team’s performance “unacceptable.”

If Krzyzewski has to lose in the Final Four to end his career, who do you think he would rather lose to?

Bet the ranch on Saint Peter’s and Shaheen Holloway over North Carolina and Hubert Davis.

However, this conversation will have to wait a few more days. Duke tears Arkansas to reach Final Four
