Drew Brees Says He “Maybe Got Back To Playing Football” Amid NBC Uncertainty

Could Drew Brees be planning a Tom Brady-style return to the NFL?

Hours after The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that Brees was done after just one season as a studio and game analyst at NBC, the former Saints quarterback, 42, responded to the story on twittersuggesting he could potentially come out of retirement.

“Despite media speculation about my future this fall, I am currently undecided,” Brees tweeted Sunday. “I might work for NBC, I might play football again, I might focus on business and philanthropy, I might coach for the Pickleball Tour, the Senior Golf Tour, coach my kids, or all of the above. I’ll let you know.”

Brees announced his retirement last March following the 2020-21 season, which included a message to fans that he would be moving into the broadcast world as an analyst for NBC Sports. He retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in career passing yards (80,358).

The father-of-four – whose children helped announce his retirement in a home video – was on Football Night in America alongside Mike Tirico as a game analyst. He made his broadcast debut last September before Tampa Bay’s season-opening win over the Cowboys when he was obvious “new hair” stole the limelight.

Brees’ last game was a dismal 30-20 loss to Brady and the Buccaneers in the divisional round of the playoffs in January 2021. It was the first time Brees threw three interceptions in a playoff game.

The Super Bowl champion served as quarterback for the Saints for 15 years and helped transform culture in New Orleans — after leading the team to its only Super Bowl in franchise history in 2010, with Brees being named MVP of the game was appointed.

For the 2022 season, the Saints appeared to have secured the quarterback position by signing Jameis Winston for a two-year, $28 million extension. The team also added veteran journeyman Andy Dalton on a one-year deal in March.

Though it remains to be seen what’s next for Brees, the quarterback said back in 2014 that he could play at a “high level” until age 45.
