A fan account with almost 50,000 followers, who changed his title to “Dr. Taylor Swift Updates,” tweeted photos of the star taking selfies with graduates at the ceremony.
Swift’s fans, known as the Swifties, erupted at the announcement that the singer would be honored by NYU, with some students offering large sums of money in exchange for their graduation cards.
The announcement of Swift’s speech caused a stir in her fan base, with some students claiming they were offered up to $500 (£403) for their tickets to the ceremony.
“One girl said she was my ‘biggest fan’ with a megaphone and would cheer me on during the ceremony if I gave her a ticket,” said NYU grad Sean Nesmith The New York Post.
Graduates who receive two tickets to the opening ceremony are prohibited from selling or auctioning their tickets and could risk losing their diplomas for doing so, the college said.
