Don King greets ‘Rumble in The Jungle 2’ as Ilunga Makabu threatens KO Canelo Alvarez… just like Ali did to Foreman

ICONIC promoter Don King welcomed ‘Rumble in The Jungle 2’ after Ilunga Makabu threatened to knock out Canelo Alvarez.

King staged arguably the most famous fight of all time in 1974, when Muhammad Ali let George Foreman down in Zairenow known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Fast forward 48 years and the 90-year-old is ready to do it all again with cruiser class champion Makabu, 34, and Mexican superstar Canelo, 31.

Alvarez asked to fight with Congo’s WBC Champion last November – and King just needs to know the opportunity for it.

In an exclusive interview with SunSport, he said: “Canelo was the one who challenged Makabu.

“Now, whether Canelo fought Makabu or not, surely Makabu said, ‘I want to fight, I accept to fight’.

“Makabu said maybe Rumble in The Jungle 2, we could go back to Zaire with a big, main attraction.

“I’m from Zaire, he said, where there was the iconic Rumble in the Jungle between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.

“And Makabu said, ‘I’m going to do to Canelo, what Muhammad Ali did to George Foreman and that knocks you down’.

“Now, I don’t know if that scares Alvarez, but we’re still ready, willing and able to fight one of the greatest boxers out there, Canelo Alvarez.”

During his SIX decade in the sport, King has worked with some of the most legendary names ever, including Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather.

“We are the only two people credited with working for greatness, but not together, so for me it is a living honor and a joy to promote Canelo,” King said.

“But I also know that Satan works 24/7 and everyone and their brother are trying to derail this war and they are trying to bribe Canelo.

“Doublecross, backstab, betray whatever is being done to stop Makabu from fighting Canelo.

“We will see what happens and whether good triumphs over evil, or if evil continues to prevail.

“We’ll deal with it, but we’re ready for you Canelo, I’m sending a message; and it was, ‘Come on, let’s get started.’

“And that’s from Illunga Junior Makabu.”
