Dolphins first-round draft position pushed back again after another nasty playoff win for 49ers – The Mercury News

The value of the Miami Dolphins’ first-round pick from the San Francisco 49ers continues to decline.

With a nasty second playoff win in a row brought by the 49ers, the pick they sent to the Dolphins will now be among the final four picks of the upcoming NFL’s first round.

San Francisco beat the Green Bay Packers, the top seed, 13-10, in the NFC’s preseason round on Saturday night, and for the Dolphins, that means the best pick might be number 29 as team 49 advances to the NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Los Angeles Rams.

Remaining scenarios: 49ers lose and Cincinnati Bengals win in AFC Championship Game, draw is 29; The 49ers lost and the Bengals lost, 30; 49 losers in the Super Bowl, 31; 49 Super Bowl winners, 32 years old.

If San Francisco loses on Saturday night at Lambeau Field, the pick will be settled in 25th place.

This is the third week in a row that selections have been negatively impacted. If the Los Angeles Rams retain their late lead in the regular-season finals against the 49ers, San Francisco will be eliminated with a pick of 17. Then the 49ers’ upset win over the Cowboys in a wild card round. Wild then pushed the pick further back from 22nd place.

The Dolphins own the 49ers’ pick while the Philadelphia Eagles have Miami’s pick due to two deals the Dolphins made with NFC teams late in the season prior to the 2021 NFL draft. Miami swapped 12th place with San Francisco, sent pick 3, formerly belonging to the Houston Texans, to the 49ers. A step up from 12 to 6, where the Jaylen Waddle wide receiver was chosen, followed and sent the Dolphins’ first round of 2022 to Philadelphia.

The Dolphins are picking about 15 points lower than they would have expected if they swapped the 49ers’ picks for the Eagles instead of their own. Miami’s pick going to Philadelphia in the upcoming draft is number 15. The Dolphins also received a 2023 first-round pick from the 49ers in the deal.

With Miami’s reported assertion at the start of the season that it will stick with midfielder Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins can’t seem to send this first pick to another team in an exchange.

Yes some attacking balls and wide receiver that could go around where the Dolphins will pick, as general manager Chris Grier and Miami’s new incoming coach will look to address the team’s needs.

The NFL draft is sorted by first having 18 non-playoff teams pick in reverse order of record, with the lower schedule intensity acting as a finisher. The 19-24 picks are then awarded to the losers of the Wild-card round in the reverse order of the regular season record. Picks 25-28 go to the losers of the division round and so on until the Super Bowl champion picks 32nd.
