‘Doctor Strange 2’ Author Admits Scarlet Witch ‘Makes Good Points’ In Movie

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are divided over the Scarlet Witch story arc Doctor Strange 2. Some love the direction Marvel is taking with Elizabeth Olsen’s character, and others aren’t too happy with her plot in the film. However, the Doctor Strange Sequel writer stands by the decision they made, even admitting he’s Team Wanda.

Scarlet Witch turned villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Doctor Strange 2 quickly made it clear that the Darkhold had converted the Scarlet Witch to the dark side. She wanted to steal America Chavez’s power to travel the multiverse for herself, killing America in the process. However, Doctor Strange did everything possible to prevent this.
In the end, Wanda realized her mistake and destroyed all copies of the Darkhold in every universe, apparently killing her.
Several Scarlet Witch fans had been conflicted over her storyline Doctor Strange Consequence. They felt their descent into madness was undeserved. And many were unhappy with the way Marvel portrayed Wanda as a cold-hearted villain.

The ‘Doctor Strange 2’ author defends the Scarlet Witch’s arc in the film
Speaking to TheWrap, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Writer Michael Waldron explained why the Scarlet Witch was the villain.
“We were excited about the idea of making her the main antagonist in the film because it felt like there wasn’t a stronger antagonist,” he said. “And it felt like just having them as a member of an ensemble, only to end up going bad, would shorten both versions of that journey. They might get a lousy version of her fall from grace, and maybe a lousy version of her being a villain as opposed to the really funny version of her being the villain.”
Waldron added, “That was my feeling WandaVision pushed her to where she was expecting this grief. But what she might not have anticipated was her anger at all of this, and that was something I debated with [Elizabeth Olsen]. And I think that’s what the Darkhold picked up on, that anger, and that really clouds Wanda’s decision-making.”
“I also think she makes good points throughout the film,” the author concluded. “Stephen gave Thanos the Time Stone. He had to? Could there have been another way? This question is asked again and again in the film. If he hadn’t given Thanos the time stone, I mean Wanda killed Vision. The mind stone was gone. All I can say is I think she makes a good point and it just felt like a really delicious conflict to explore.”
Like Michael Waldron, many fans pointed out that the Scarlet Witch was justifiably angry Doctor Strange 2. Of course, as Waldron said, the Darkhold took advantage of this anger, resulting in her killing many people.
Where does Wanda go from here?
Unfortunately, the future doesn’t look good for the Scarlet Witch fellowship Doctor Strange 2. She apparently gave her life to destroy all copies of Darkhold, but many fans believe Wanda didn’t actually die. However, Michael Waldron could have bad news for fans.
“There’s not always a totally satisfying ending for the entire audience, especially when you have a villain that everyone loves and cares about,” the writer explained. “The ending will probably be sad in a lot of ways and it’s a tragedy. But I hope what was satisfying was the feeling that at the end of this thing you see Wanda break free from the grip of the Scarlet Witch, the Darkhold.”
Based on Waldron’s comments, it sounds like the Scarlet Witch actually died in the end Doctor Strange 2. But if you know Marvel, anything is possible.
