OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – If you need a little help making ends meet, Oklahomans are encouraged to apply for two assistance programs.

Oklahoma Human Services is accept online application for the Low Income Family Energy Assistance Program and the Low Income Family Water Assistance Program.

Officials say the programs help low-income families pay their heating and utility bills in the winter.

Energy assistance program for low-income families

Eligible households that have received assistance through OKDHS are pre-authorized to receive LIHEAP for the winter heating period, which means they do not need to complete an application.

Households that are not pre-authorised but are currently receiving assistance through OKDHS have been notified by mail and should apply online.

Program to support water at home for low-income people

LIHWAP is a new, one-time program that provides funds to help low-income households pay their water and wastewater bills.

To receive LIHWAP, the resident’s public drinking water or wastewater company must be a participating provider.

Priority is given to households with elderly people, disabled people and children under 5 years old.

Officials said each program is only allowed to pay once a year per household.

LIHEAP payment must be applied to primary heating and LIHWAP payment must be applied to water or wastewater bill.

Native American households can apply through OKDHSLive.org or through their tribal nation. Tribal households cannot receive assistance from both OKDHS and their tribe in the same federal fiscal year.


The maximum allowable gross monthly income for each household size is:

  • 1 person: $1,396
  • 2 people: $1,888
  • 3 people: $2,379
  • 4 people: $2,871
  • 5 people: $3,363
  • 6 people: $3,855
  • 7 people: $4,347
  • 8 people: $4,839.
