Devils’ Fabian Zetterlund and Kevin Bahl score first NHL goals in win

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Fabian Zetterlund and Kevin Bahl scored their first career goals and New Jersey scored twice in the last minute of the second period to send the Devils to a 6-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night.

Tomas Tatar and Jesper Boqvist took a 4-2 lead late in the second lap, 22 seconds apart. Yegor Sharangovich scored twice in the last five minutes and added an assist as the Devils won their second straight loss after breaking a five-game losing streak in Dallas on Saturday.

Nico Hischier had three assists and Nico Daws made 19 saves in his second straight win.

Nick Schmaltz and Travis Boyd scored for the Coyotes, who have lost four straight games and 11 of 13. Schmaltz has a career-high 23 goals, and an assist on Boyd’s goal tied for a career-best 52 points.

The Coyotes have scored five goals in their last four games and have eight goals in six games since losing top scorer Clayton Keller to a season-ending leg fracture.

Arizona’s Phil Kessel hit the far post with four minutes left and Daws made two close-range saves a minute later on a Coyotes power play to tie the game.

Coyotes goaltender Karel Vejmelka fended off Jesper Bratt with a sweeping save early in the second game before Bahl made it 2-1 with a slap shot from the right spot through traffic at 5:24. Bahl once played a clever pass behind Nathan Bastian’s net that bounced off the sideboards.

Coyotes defenseman Kyle Capobianco hit the right post midway through the second game.

Schmaltz left the ice after hitting Ty Smith hard about five minutes from the end of the half but came back moments later and ran in alone down the right for a power play goal for a 2:36 level.

Tatar scored on a pass from Bratt to make it 19:14 after Vejmelka misplayed the puck behind the net and was unable to get in position. Boqvist hit a rebound in front 22 seconds later when Vejmelka stopped Janne Kuokkanen’s high wrist shot but couldn’t control it.

Sharangovich scored twice in the final period 4:24.
