Deshaun Watson avoids criminal charges by Texas second grand jury

Deshaun Watson has escaped indictment for the second time.

A grand jury in Brazoria County, Texas, declined to charge Watson with sexual misconduct Thursday after 22 massage therapists accused him of sexual misconduct.

“After a careful and thorough review of the facts and evidence documented in the reports of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Houston Police Department, as well as hearing witnesses, the Brazoria County Grand Jury declined to indict Deshaun Watson for any crimes Brazoria County Attorney Tom Selleck said in a statement. “Accordingly, this matter is now closed.”

Earlier this month, a Harris County, Texas grand jury also declined to indict Watson.

Watson is still facing a civil suit in connection with the allegations. It’s also possible that despite the fact that he is not charged with a felony, he could be subject to disciplinary action under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. The NFL said in a statement Thursday the matter is still under review.

Last week, Watson was traded from the Texans to the Browns and signed a five-year, $230 million contract that was fully guaranteed.

Watson, 26, is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL when he’s active. Last season, the Texans disabled him on pay as the allegations made their way through the court system.
