It’s a takedown in Tallahassee.
A new ad from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis highlights the rush of northeastern emigrants to the Sunshine State — and features ex-New Yorkers to get the point across.
The spot, filmed in New Smyrna Beach during spring break, encourages viewers to “choose free, be free” while showing an animated image of the polarizing governor in aviator glasses.
“I’m New Yorker,” explains one woman. “And now I live in Florida.”
Another Empire State refugee is asked where her homeland ranks in terms of universal freedom.
“I think we’re pretty much at the end,” replies the woman.
“You’re number zero,” interjects a DeSantis employee.
The beach broadside then features images of Queens Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clutching an al fresco cocktail during a December trip to Miami.
Another visitor from Florida was asked about the state of affairs in her native Pennsylvania.
“I hate it,” she said, peppering her take with a condemnation of Gov. Tom Wolf and praise for DeSantis.
“People want to be here,” said another woman. “People want to be in the state of Florida.”
One of the ex-New Yorkers on display assures an interviewer that her relocated relatives plan to support DeSantis en masse.
“My whole family will vote for him,” she said.
The outspoken governor, tipped as a potential Republican presidential nominee in 2024, has evoked both fierce loyalty and outspoken opposition during his tenure.
