Deebo Samuel next team odds after swap request

This was the off-season of wide-receiver drama in the NFL and it’s going through to the draft.

After seeing Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill rebrand the wide receiver market while switching teams, the San Francisco 49ers are now dealing with a problem of their own when using their top offensive weapon on the Feld want to start the 2022 season.

Deebo Samuel is embroiled in heated contract talks with the 49ers and has now requested a swap for a number of reasons. There’s no denying what Samuel has provided in 2021 from a production standpoint, but there seems to be a disconnect between how he wants to be used and how the 49ers want to use him.

Now that we’ve requested a swap, the odds for where Samuel will play next have been released on DraftKings:

San Francisco 49ers (-250)

The most likely scenario, according to the oddsmakers, is that Samuel stays in San Francisco. Why shouldn’t he. Just because he requested a trade doesn’t mean it will be traded. As much as he wants to be traded, the 49ers have made it clear they have no intention of walking away from their prolific offensive weapon. It appears the two teams are in something of a stalemate, but the most likely scenario is that Samuel enters the 2022 season for his fourth season at San Francisco.

New York Jets (+450)

As you can see, there’s a pretty big difference between San Francisco’s -250 odds and the New York Jets’ +500 odds, but if one team has what it takes to pull off this deal, they do. The Jets were in the middle of the action for Tyreek Hill, and with plenty of cap space, draft capital, and a glaring need for a strong wide receiver for their sophomore quarterback Zach Wilson, the Jets were able to make an aggressive push to win Samuel’s services – assuming they could get 49ers general manager John Lynch to answer the phone.

Houston Texans (+5000)

Yes, that’s an extra zero on those odds compared to the Jets. The Houston Texans are still going for long shots to win Samuel, but there are reports to suggest they’re a team to watch.

It would make sense. The Texans are in the midst of a rebuild, ample draft capital, cap space, and a sophomore quarterback they want to stock with talent — all of which reflect the Jets’ predicament.

The Texans have 3rd and 13th overall picks, and it sounds like the latter could potentially be in play for a Samuel trade. That move would give the Texans a young superstar wide receiver to join the constantly underrated Brandon Cooks and sophomore wide receiver Nico Collins. At +5000 odds this might be worth a look.
