Death of Ron Pember: Only Fools and Horses actor dies aged 87

Only fools and horses Actor Ron Pember has died aged 87.

The actor – who also appeared in Red Dwarf – died on Tuesday (March 8), his grandson Paul Pember confirmed.

“The sadness now is the happiness then. That’s the deal. 04/11/1934 – 03/08/2022 #ronpember #grandad,” he wrote in an online tribute, accompanied by several images of Pember throughout his career.

The Essex-born actor played Baz in a 1983 episode of the series entitled ‘Homesick’.

The sitcom’s official Twitter account paid tribute to the late star on Twitter, writing: “We are saddened by the news of the death of Ron Pember, who played Baz in the Series 3 episode ‘Homesick.’ Our thoughts and heartfelt wishes go to his family and friends.”

Fellow actor Danny John-Jules – who starred alongside Pember in Red Dwarf – remember his co-star as “such a gentleman”.

“He just rammed his tongue hard on his cheek and joined the party! What a legend. RIP,” wrote John-Jules.

Also for his roles in Only fools and horses and Red DwarfPember was best known for his role as Alain Muny in the seventies BBC drama secret army.

Pember has also appeared on television shows including Sherlock Holmes’ rivals, The Dick Emery Show, The two Ronnies, High street bluesand all good things.

Before that he played with the National Theater Company from 1965 to 1968. Pember has also starred in and directed productions at the Mermaid Theater in London.

In 1974 he co-wrote a musical entitled Jack the Ripper.

In 1992 he suffered a stroke and subsequently stopped acting.
