DayZ: How to make a splint and heal a broken leg

To learn How do I create a splint in DayZ can make this brutal game a little more bearable. Unfortunately, a broken bone can lead to a quick death if you don’t have a way to fix it (especially if you don’t have a friend). This will allow you to heal your leg and bring your movement speed back to normal.

DayZ Splint Recipe

To craft a splint in DayZ you must use one of two recipes:

  • 1 bandage + 2 short sticks
  • 4 lobes + 2 short sticks

Each of these recipes yields a single track. Note, however, that the bandage must be completely unused for the recipe to work.

You can get rags by using a bladed weapon on a piece of clothing, which is plentiful on all available maps. Short sticks are a little harder to find, but all you have to do is head to a bush or small tree to harvest one. However, you must be careful. You can take bleed damage if you try to do this without gloves.

If you break a leg, you’ll immediately fall to the ground and get stuck prone. If you try to get up and walk at this point, you’ll take shock damage and fall unconscious after a few steps. So at this point, it’s best to stay prone and put a splint on.

Once you have the splint you can attach it to your broken leg. After setting the bone, you can walk slowly and climb over small obstacles. However, you cannot run or jump until the leg heals.

To begin healing the fracture you must be at maximum health, have maximum blood, and have plenty of energy and hydration. Once these conditions are met, it takes about an hour for the bone to heal. However, by putting on the splint, this time is halved to about 30 minutes.

The upside to this is that if you break a leg, you can’t get another one (with one exception). At least that way you can’t accidentally break both legs. The exception to this is when you get caught in a bear trap. When this happens you can actually end up with two fractures. DayZ: How to make a splint and heal a broken leg
