Day 2 Coachella highlights, from a surprise Gorillaz performance to The Simpsons theme, live!

A windy Saturday in the desert is coming to an end. Here are the best things that can happen on Saturday (April 16) on Day Two of Coachella.

Billie Eilish and Damon Albarn perform “Feel Good Inc”

Damon Albarn wanders onto the stage to join Billie Eilish during their flashy headline set. The 20-year-old later introduces him as Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn, who “changed her life” and is “literally a genius,” before they team up for a performance of Feel Good Inc. However, not everyone in the crowd knew who the Blur frontman was, some thought he was Eilish’s father and also Elton John.

Danny Elfman makes the world’s most famous TV topic live!

Composer Danny Elfman, 68, is by far the oldest artist performing at this year’s youth event Coachella. He gets the kids on his side, however, when he performs what is undoubtedly the most famous piece of music he’s ever composed, the zany theme from The Simpsons, which he amplifies with a screeching guitar solo. Lisa would be proud of his virtuosity.

Coachella bids farewell to innovative boy band Brockhampton

After nearly a decade of pushing boundaries and breaking rules, the most innovative boy band of the 21st century has decided to call it a day. But not without one final surprise – the announcement of a brand new album due for release later this year.

Disclosure accompanied by Khalid and the marching band during an energetic rave set

Surrey-born brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence welcomed Khalid for the first-ever live performance of their 2020 collaboration Know Your Worth. The duo then ended their set with the party anthem “Tondo,” which was accompanied onstage by a brass section from the marching band.

Jackson Wang’s surprise appearance is all Twitter can talk about

Chinese superstar Jackson Wang arrives unannounced during record label 88rising’s takeover of the main stage, causing the festival to lose its collective sanity. With his silver-blue hair and red gloves on display majestically, the flashy Wang sneaks through ten minutes of Michael Jackson-inspired choreography with the flair of a Las Vegas magician, leaving a crowd of fans more than happy about his arrival, but also wondering why he wasn’t on stage for at least an hour longer.

Finally a mosh pit

We find our first real mosh pit of the weekend at Turnstile’s Mojave set. Crowd surfing and lots of flailing limbs accompany the seductive nature of the US hardcore act with melodic, yet extremely wild punk.

Billie-Mania sweeps the page

Billie Eilish’s eponymous perfume brand tweeted a photo of the singer next to a giant replica of the fragrance bottle, which is a metal bust missing half a head. There’s also a dedicated tent that only sells Eilish merch – hoodies are a whopping $90 though, so I can’t imagine you’d be able to kit yourself out head-to-toe in full Eilish attire.

Megan Thee Stallion twerks to victory

The mighty Megan Thee Stallion pulled out the best dance moves of the weekend so far, with a series of butt-focused moves that many fans online commented would likely stretch out their hips if they tried them at home.

Emo Rules

DJs from LA’s Emo Nite turned the festival into a throwback party, throwing tunes by Paramore and Fall Out Boy and a performance of “Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White Tees. What year is it again?

We survive the wind

We see trash cans, bucket hats and all sorts of nonsense being swept across the site in the wind when a strong breeze hits the festival grounds. Luckily it’s not so bad that shows are stopped or stages are closed, but it’s proving to be a bit annoying.
