A mother has told how Cristiano Ronaldo left her autistic son bruised and bruised when he smacked an iPhone out of his hand in rage after the Everton defeat.
Sarah Kelly had taken her 14-year-old son to cheer on his beloved blues for the first time when the day turned sour.
Video circulating on social media after today’s game a visibly angry Ronaldo slapping a mobile phone out of the hand of a supporter as he left the lawn of Goodison Park.
Now Sarah has claimed it was her son who was ‘attacked’ by the United superstar as he walked back into the away team’s dressing room.
she said The Liverpool Echo: “At full-time, Man United players started to leave. We were in Park End so we were right by the tunnel where they walked by – my son was there filming them all.
“He filmed all the United players as they walked through. And then he lowered his phone because Ronaldo had pulled his sock down and his leg was bleeding. He lowered his phone to see what it was – he didn’t even speak.
“Ronaldo then just walked by, with a horrible, horrible temper, and slapped the phone out of my son’s hand and kept walking.”
She added: “You can see from the bruise that he’s made contact. I just can’t believe I’m talking about this.”
This evening The soccer star posted on Instagram to apologize – and offered the hapless Everton fan a chance to watch another United game.
But Sarah says her son, who is autistic and suffers from dyspraxia, was left in “complete shock” and stopped going to the games.
She said: “I cried, I was shattered, Jacob was in total shock – he’s autistic and he also has dyspraxia so he didn’t really digest what happened until he got home now.
“He’s really upset about it and it’s completely put him off going back to the game. This is the first football game he’s been to and it happened.
“We had an absolutely brilliant day until the final seconds when they came off the pitch. It completely ruined the day and left us with a bad taste in our mouths.”
Sarah claims her son’s phone was completely smashed after it was knocked out of his hand.
She added: “I would understand if Jake waved it at his face, but he wasn’t near his face, it was down on the ground examining his injury.
“He’s an autistic boy and was attacked by a football player, so that’s how I see it as a mother.”
Earlier, Ronaldo’s club confirmed they were “investigating” the incident, which was circulated on social media.
In his apology post tonight ronaldo37, said: “It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like the one we’re about to face.
“Nevertheless, we must always be respectful and patient and lead by example to all young players who love the beautiful game.
“I would like to apologize for my outrage and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a show of fair play and sportsmanship.”
